September is here! Perhaps it’s because so many of my friends and family have kids, September has always seems like a busier month than others. I know that you yourself might be adjusting to new schedules, driving car pools and getting the kids to their after school activities as well. Furthermore, we are coming up on the holiday season which adds to the revved up atmosphere and it’s just great! Even as a kid, I would love shopping for new art supplies for school and the fresh smell of crayons in the box and the thrill of meeting and making new friends…. how exciting! Everything seems to pick up speed in September and I love using the busy vibes to help me focus in writing and drawing.
Next month, everyone is focused on Halloween and more or less settled in their new schedules. But September is all about adjusting to new ones, and getting back to real life after the summer glory days. It can be tough at first, but it’s great to meet the challenge.
My September began by adjusting to the new schedule of drawing finished pages for my next book. The writing and drafting out of the pages was a fun process altogether. It is a cool story in which is all about following your intuitions and beliefs no matter how crazy they may be. In this volume Elena sees a vision that compels her to go down some interesting paths on her way to finding the truth. After first losing her mother to breast cancer and later in life having her new-born taken away from her at the hospital, Elena once again feels a tremendous sense of loss. Her visions of a baby angel in her closet who gives her a glimpse into the future has a huge impact on her. Is it reality or another delusion? Elena is reflecting on this one day while out for a drive and she sees a kid in an Alfa Romeo pass who then, brake checks her! Number one: Elena can’t believe that someone would have such road rage. Number two: She can’t believe its a little KID behind the wheel! Determined to take the munchkin
safely off the road, a spectacular car chase ensues! However, the kid gets away using some very clever means. A series of things happen that ultimately lead them meeting again at a modest Italian car shop where, Elena notices the mysterious child has the same colored eyes as the Angel in the vision! All of a sudden her motherly instinct kicks in and Elena wishes to protect the child for some reason. It’s good she does because the little one has a very important message for Elena. Is the child hiding her true identity? Are these chance encounters Elena’s imagination coming to fruition? Or has Elena simply forgotten to take her anti-psychotic meds once again? I’ll leave it up to you to decide.
So enjoy the rest of September because October is nearly here…. and so is the 2017 Italian day parade in San Francisco! More on that in my next post! I hope you have a chance to check out Red Bella volume one and two when you get chance. They lead into the book I am writing now and also were a lot of fun to create too! Until next time, Take care!
I hope that everyone is having a great summer! It’s been a while since I’ve given an update on Red Bella, the book and our direction. I am eager to be back to share everything with you.
The last time I posted I mentioned that we had been invited to attend the Italian day parade in San Francisco which we did! All I can say is that it was an amazing experience! There were well over 20,000 people in attendance that day and it was located near the fisherman’s wharf. We had my Alfa Romeo 164 Q with one Italian flag hanging out the rear passenger side window and a Red Bella flag hanging out of the other rear passenger window. Everyone was cheering and smiling when they saw our car but the most amazing thing was getting mentioned by the parade announcer on the loud speaker at the end of the procession. It almost moved me to tears! The only thing I wish is that I had gotten more pictures from inside the car. Next time I will be sure to document the day much better!
Since then, I have been busy writing and drawing the drafts for each page of the next book. Sketching out the book in draft form takes the longest time because I have to put lots of thought into the placement of the characters, the action in the frames and facial expressions in relation to the dialog. I also had to make several revisions to the story to make it flow right but I’ve finally drafted out the entire book. Now I can finally start drawing the finished version of each page. It still will take a while to do, but it at least its all down hill from here!
During the process of doing my books, I have made many friendships around the world. When I first started Red Bella, I never knew that so many people would be interested in my art. A few months ago I was contacted by my friend Nicole, from the The Netherlands, whose uncle Hendrik was in the hospital. He had cancer and the prognosis for survival was not good. Since Hendrik was an Avid Alfa Romeo Enthusiast, they had the idea that possibly I could draw his Alfa for him which I did. I sent them the drawing which they had enlarged and printed onto a large canvas. They presented it to their uncle which he absolutely loved! I was told that I made him a very happy man. Sadly he passed away shortly afterward, but I’m glad that I was able to do that for him to say the least. My hope was that my art could bring a little bit of happiness to him during that time.
Til next time, Hope you’re having a gorgeous sunny month wherever you are. Have a great day!
SET IN ITALY, ELENA ROSSALINI IS TWENTY-SOMETHING AND A PROUD ITALIAN WOMAN. When she’s not at her depressing day job working as a paralegal for a corrupt law firm, she is consumed by her desire to destroy those who she feels will not be brought to justice in the legal system.
A beautiful young, single, professional, Elena is unknowingly used…manipulated…exploited…and ultimately abused by the evil system which created her.
However, as the plot thickens, things are not as they seem to be. Corruption and conspiracy dominate her life as she seeks to uncover the truth.
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the summer. Hopefully, you still have some vacation time coming your way this August. We all need a break when we can manage it. As for me I have a few exciting things to share with you!
The first is that the progress for my next graphic novel is coming along quite well. I was able to finalize the script last month which was a huge milestone…(writing can be a bit time consuming for me). Not only was I able to finish the script, but I have transitioned to creating the storyboard for each page too.
Sketching the storyboard is always fun, because we will get a better idea of what will be on each page. Originally, I wanted the book to be roughly around 84 pages long. I am only five pages into the script and I have already storyboarded 90 pages. That being said, I would estimate that the finished book will be around 100-120 pages long. As of writing this I hope to finish the sketch drawings later tonight. Soon, we will be ready to draw the actual pages of the Graphic novel…YAAY!!
In other news, Red Bella has been selected to participate in the 2016 Italian Day Parade in San Francisco! The event takes place on October 9th. Our Entry will be a 1995 Alfa 164Q. For the un-initiated, the 164 “Quadrifoglio” was a powerful four door sedan and was also the last Alfa Romeo model sold new in the United States during the 90’s. Our particular model is fresh from the shop with a new timing belt, tensioner, and water pump. We are ready to roll!
I’ll be posting about the entire experience from event preparation to the parade itself. If you’re in SF that day, come by and show your support! We’d really appreciate it!
Lastly, I am happy to announce the start of our Red Bella promotions. I thought it would be a great idea to help spread the word about our graphic novels, and to give a something back to the people who mention Red Bella to their friends. The rules of the contest are pretty straightforward. They involve “liking” our Red Bella Facebook page and sharing it with three friends. The winner will be chosen at random, and each month there’ll be a different prize. For this month, the prize is a set of Rockford Car Audio Speakers. Keep checking back with us to see what we will give away next!
Have a wonderful month, and enjoy these last glorious, hopefully productive days before we get catapulted into fall, faster than we can imagine.
Alright here we go! This is my first blog post so I’m pretty excited to give you an update into my next book in the Red Bella series. It’s been a while since I have posted anything about my book on the information-superhighway (aka the internet). I thought this would be great opportunity to give readers an insight into my work.
After I completed work on my recent book “Il Regalo”, I had to take a break to recuperate! It took six months of non-stop drawing to complete all 64 pages. Many of my readers had lots of questions as to what happens next in the series. They were eager to find out what happens to Elena’s baby, how she got her new car and what’s in that mysterious box in the Alfa 4C. My plan was to take a few more months off, but I’ve started to get the bug to draw again!
That being said, I will be posting the entire process of creating my upcoming graphic novel titled “Red Bella: Il Riscatto”. My creative process may be a bit unorthodox to some so just bear with me! Also, my posts will give you a glimpse into the life of Elena and her crazy-killer-adventures. My plan is for this book to be about 84 pages in length. Hopefully it doesn’t take an eternity to do it…We’ll see!
So let’s get started shall we? Each of my books starts with a basic script. This is a break down of the entire book and what happens in each scene. At this stage, we won’t worry too much about the dialog since we’ll add that in last. However, if I feel that a piece of dialog is witty enough, I’ll just keep it in there. If I’m bored or listening to a PowerPoint presentation about BMW’s, I’ll just start doodling…which happens A LOT. When an idea comes to my head for a particular scene or if I see something interesting such as a squirrel or an upside down house, I tend to sketch it out on scratch paper. Once I am ready to start writing, we’ll then gather all of the doodles from the past few months to see how best to incorporate the ideas.
At the time of writing this it is 3:00 am here in California and I have just finished writing the script and eating my Top Ramen. Next step will be the fun part…that is, drawing the storyboard for each page and illustrating the preliminary drafts!
There will be more to come so be sure to check back with me soon for another update! Take good care and drive Alfas!
P.S. You can follow me on Instagram @redbellanovel, as I’ll be posting short videos and pictures as we go along too. Ciao!

Born in a legendary factory in Cassino Italy, on the eve of Festa della Repubblica, this 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is what Elena chose to help her save the world from evil.
After her beloved white Alfa 164 sedan was stolen by a murderous BMW owner’s car club, Elena began the search for a new Alfa to help in her fight. Nicknamed “Killer”, her paint is red. Her body is voluptuous and her twin turbo engine growls from the quad chrome tail pipes…sending shivers down the spine of any BMW or Mercedes-Benz within earshot. Symbolically, Elena painted the carbon bonnet and nose white as a tribute to her fallen 164.
Much like the Festa della Repubblica holiday that celebrates the birth and unification of the Italian Republic, Elena has finally been re-united with a powerful new Alfa. Now she may continue on her quest to find the truth.
